What's the best way to find/get a non-teaching job in Japan?
Asked by aerisaoi
I'll be graduating in May and I think I'd like to return to Japan to work (after having studied there for a semester). However, I'm not interested in becoming an English teacher (or any kind of teacher for that matter). It's just not something I feel comfortable doing. I plan to request living abroad as I move through my career, but I'd like to see if I can get a head start now to retain my language skills. So what do you think is the best way to search for or get a non-teaching job in Japan? Are there websites? Agencies to contact? I fully understand that it would be tough to find such a job, but I'm willing to search and compete. I'd just like a place to start. Thanks for your help!

As far as I know, this is the best site for searching a job in Japan. http://www.gaijinpot.com/ It is rather easy to work as an English teacher but other than that, it takes time. Same as in any country, there are not so many opportunities for gaijin to get a job even if you have very special qualifications. After submitting an application, normally you will have to wait quite a long period, so be patient and it might be better to work in your country while waiting. Good luck!

Check out the websites of companies based in Japan. Toyota and Honda comes to mind. Keep in mind that part of the Japanese business culture is to develop relationships first so perhaps working for a Japanese company in the states first is a good option.
