When you're researching for this position, don't talk to people older than 25. With the advent of computer based analysis, the auto technicians of the future do very little diagnosis and alot of computer analysis. There's no need to find out how a carbureator works or why you need to lube a car. Ask a 40-year old auto tech what the 1442 device does and he'll look at you cock-eyed. Look to get an ASE certification also which will help finding a position in most garages and also help in the salary department. Sadly, that'll tack on another 12 months to your program.
