If I ENJOYED working as a sales associate in retail, do you think I would ENJOY being a HOTEL administrator?

Well, I have worked in three different hotels as a maintenance grunt, then a maintenance supervisor, and finally as a chief facilities engineer (maintenance manager). All three jobs were great learning experiences, but hotels do not pay well at all, and they demand a lot from you, because it is totally a customer service industry. The rollover rate of employees is the highest I have experienced in any of my jobs, mostly because it is high school and college students that need to earn money for their fun times. Also retired people like working at hotels, so often they aren't the most motivated co-workers to be around. The exception might be working for an upper echelon hotel franchise. Of course that would require more responsibility, but the benefits would probably be better. The three hotels I worked at were two Marriott properties and a Northwest local franchise called Shiloh Inns. Good luck if you decide to go this route, but again don't even look at lower end chains. You'll be sorry.

I would check out the job description and make sure that its not just a glorified description for a paper-pushing job, but I would think you would enjoy the challenge of helping people. Different venue but same type of operation.

I'd say, if you're still interacting with lots of people, you probably would enjoy it very much. Granted, you'll have some boring admin duties and more responsibility on your shoulders, but I think it would be a good step up. For what it's worth. :-)
