How do I become a General Manager for a sports franchise.?
Asked by Nick
my dream job is to become a general manager, I am in high school and have a great enthusiasm for sports. What do I have to do to be in the path to become a general manager or another sports related job. Baseball intrigues me as I am strong in statistics and mathematical fields. I would not prefer my major to be sports management, as it would not help me if I took a path in Actuarial Science or in business. Does anyone have any good advice for me as I head to College?

Best Answer:
I admire your ambition.
Since you have an interest in statistics and math, go that direction with your undergraduate degree. As a minor, you might want to study marketing or journalism.
I understand your now wanting to major in sports management, but you might consider getting a master's degree in sports administration (Ohio University has one of the best in the USA.)
Early on, seek internships with minor-league or college programs. That can lead you to a higher level fairly quickly.
Recommended: read the biographies of the GM's of sports franchises today, and you will get an idea of how these people got there. Follow their lead.
Good luck.
