What are the best months to apply for a job at the post office?
Asked by LookingForAPostOfficeJob
I would like a job preferably as a casual (temp) at a New England Post Office Warehouse, multiple members of my family have had jobs at the post office and I have wanted to join since I was a little kid. I am now a full grown man and I want to know the specifics of getting a job at the post office warehouse... Such as: What months are best to apply? (By that I mean when are they most likely to hire) What I need to do to get hired? (Such as what someone you know or you did during your interview and please be specific with details) What I should bring with me? (To interview) What should I wear? (As I mentioned before I am a full grown man) Things I should mention? (At the interview) What shifts are between 10 am- Midnight? (Such as the terms 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift)...... I am a very hard worker who really wants a job at a New England Post Office and would appreciate any help especially from current or former Postal Workers or if you know someone who has worked for the post office.

As far as I know there is a hiring freeze on right now for career employees. Especially for clerks, which is what you are talking about if you want to work a tour 3 shift, carriers only work during the day. Usually the only offices that run 3 tours are P&DC's. As for casuals, that is usually on a by office need, there is no test to take, you would actually have to contact the office(s) you are interested in working at and ask if they are hiring casuals. Best months to ask would be in Oct or Nov, right before Christmas, or June July before companies start sending out there end of summer/fall catalogs. But really you should ask as soon as you can, because you never know when an office might have people retire, quit, or get hurt and need to hire right away.

Wish i knew. I've been on the hire list for nearly 2 years now and haven't heard anything from them. I have to call and ask to be kept on for another year. If not hired before then i will have to retake the test.

The Post Office should be looking to hire summer casuals very, very soon. Our Postmaster requested 8 casuals for the summer, and is awaiting district approval.
