What must one do to become a carpenter? I don't know where to start. Is there formal training involved?
Asked by Sara E
I think that I would love working on houses - building, remodeling, all of that. So if I want to be a carpenter, what would I do? Are there different levels? I have heard the title Master Carpenter, what's that? Please give me some educated answers. Thanks so much!

With those kind of careers an apprenticeship is always the way to go that way you can learn from a proffesional while getting paid to help out(instead of sitting in a University trying to get a degree that will leave you with debts and wont help that much). You should go find a carpenter and ask them about the job.Carpentry is a career involving a lot of skill with your hands needs practice so maybe do some DIY and see if your any good.

1st find a contracting company that you can shadow. School for high end carpenters is a must. To be a master you have to be either the best, or have a degree. You need to get a lot of on the job training. You'll start out as basically a tool pusher. Picking up scrap nails lifting sheet rock crappy stuff like that but the harder you work the faster you'll work up the ladder.
