Is a painter and decorator a lucrative job? Is it a skill that you can learn as you do it, or do you need to be trained? If you had your own business, how much could you earn?

You earn as much as your skills are worth. If you have uniquely good taste and are creative, people may be willing to pay more. It's possible to learn as you go, especially if you have a natural gift for it, but to make a good deal of money you need to have formal education.
