How long does this take?

I applied for a job in an aircraft shop. The manager of maintenance called me back in about 2 weeks after our first interview and offered me a position. He told me my hourly wage, and gave me a schedule. He did not tell me when I would start but he did tell me that his assistant would call me the next day to give me more information and then we would continue with the paperwork. He said the background check could take anywhere between 3 days and 2 weeks, but his assistant did not call me as of yet. It's been about 4 days, and I understand they are busy and everything, but I just wanted to know if this was normal, and should I call or anything?

It would certainly be acceptable for you to call and ask about how long the background check takes, when your appointment will be, and so on. Ask to speak to the assistant if you know his/her name.
