Degree needed to become a Controller or CFO?
Asked by Juan
I'm close to being done with my A.A degree in Business Administration, but I recently started a new job and the position of Controller or CFO definately looks very appealing to me. What degree would I need to persuit in order to one day become this?

You would, at a minimum, need to be a CPA. Depending on the size of the company, an MBA in Finance from a top 50 program would help.
Before you decide, read through all information on Sarbanes/Oxley corporate disclosure requirements. Until those are repealed or modified, I'm not so sure CFO is as great a job as it appears.
Good luck!

It depends on the size of the company and how much experience you have in the finance department. The controller and CFO that I work with both have Bachelor's Degree. They may look appealing but it's hard work. They come to work before I do, and when I leave, they are still working. I have a 8-5 shift and I usually get to work around 7:30.
