What is the difference between Marketing Research and Marketing Consulting?

I have worked in Marketing Research for 4 yrs and understand what that entails. I am currently looking for a new position closer to home and most of the companies in my area are listed under consulting.

consulting i think is (dont quote me) when a business hires you and you give them marketing information, my dad does that with business but i guess they are the same thing, plus you can have like 3 months off and still make like 500k.

i think marketing reseach means u need to go out to do surveys, field work, etc but marketing consulting is like u consult people, give advice, etc..
