How do I gain experience as a Grant Writer?
Asked by Nelly
I am a freelance writer and editor in Cincinnati, Ohio who works for a variety of business and individual clients to meet their writing needs. I have recently familiarized myself with the Grant Writing process, and have taken some courses on the topic. How do I gain practical experience in the field? Are there any internships or entry level jobs available in this specialty? I am specifically interested in grant and proposal writing for non-profits.

Start calling around. Call up non profits in your area who you feel you could help with your skills. Also look for their websites. Put a sort of a resume together highlighting what you have told us here but include specifics. You've done all the right things so far. I'm impressed by your enthusiasm; they probably will be too!!

Same as with any other pursuit. You gain experience by doing. Try writing Grants!
