If you were hiring for a bookkeeper for your company would you hire someone 30ish or 50ish?
Asked by Bubba Sparks
I mean, no one knows you here so you can answer honestly. But if you were a small to medium sized business hiring a bookkeeper to keep your books and financial report, would you hire someone looking 25 or someone looking 35?
I am 33 but look 25. I am almost CERTAIN, that is why I am not getting a call back once I interview. I do second interviews all the time and no offer.

Personally, all other things being equal, I'd go with the older applicant. They tend to be more professional, experienced and trustworthy. But it would depend on the individuals and how well they carried themselves in an interview.

If I were an employer, your professional history would be most important to me. But if it were based solely on age, probably the elder, unless the young chicks were totally into me... :D
But seriously, older people tend to understand the business world better, usually make better judgment calls, and are more willing to work over. All and all, a better work for that type of work. Good luck.

I would hope that the more qualified individual would be offered the position. Where I work the bookeeper is in her 70's! She was hired, though, in her 60's. Oh.....if you can come up with an answer to that damn "What is your worst quality?" question.....you are freaking brilliant.
