Hi friends, please advice and guide me to switch over from a Manufacturing Industry to Software Industry.?

I am, of 36 yrs age, an M.Tech(Production Engg.) from REC-WARANGAL:1993-94 Batch. Working in defence public sector(Manufacturing Industry) and having "Managerial experience" in the functionsl areas: 7 Years in Integrated Materials Management Dept. and 5 Years in Production management.
Currently, I am wishing to switch over to Software Industry - ERP line, in HYDERABAD. Pl. suggest me in this regard, and also advice me if any other better ways to proceed with my experience at this age. Awaiting for your valuable advices. My sincere Thanks in advance . --- Venkat S

setting your expectations right....its great to switch over to software industry for big bucks.....but you would face lot of issues during this transformation.
SAP/ERP is the good choice and you fit in the functional role of SAP pm/mm/SD... but surely it's going to take some time (may be 1 to 2 years) before you get comfortable with Softwares...
Suggest you to pool in some money to cover your family and then jump into the SAP/ERP world
Also if you have the knowledge of Technical side like ABAP etc its' good.
it will be easy for you to map to realworld to SAP/ERP package, guys with nil/no functional experiences are earning big money today
