How much does a drafting engineer make a year?

Yes, I want to be a drafting engineer because I want to come up with designs that can one day save the world (or at lease improve the renewable energy technologies available today). Can anybody help me find out how much they make? Thanks!

We used to use drafting technicians many many years ago to draw up schematics, box designs for equipment etc... Nowadays there is a lot of Computer-aided software tools so we do not use many drafting people anymore in Electronics. Maybe in Architecture or Mechanical Drawing they use more drafting skills but I think most Engineers can use AutoCad or equivalent technical drawing software for precise mechanical drawings. If you were to go to a University to study Drafting Engineering, there is no such degree. What you want to study is Civil or Environmental Engineering or Maybe even some related fields of Mechanical Engineering. Drafting is a thing of the past.
