How difficult would it be for me to work full time and go to school full time (double major)?
Asked by SexyMommy2B
I know they say that you shouldn’t work more than 20 hrs if you will be enrolled in school as a full time student. I would love to only work 20 hrs a week but it is impossible. I work to pay bills and now I am working to put myself through school, so cutting back my hours is not an option. My question is what should I expect? I have been out of school for about 5 yrs now. I decided maybe taking the ‘harder’ classes during the semester and the ‘easy’ classes during winter & summer cycles. I am also planning on attending school all year round, so that I do not have to overwork myself during the semester. Does this sound like it may work? Or am I just setting myself up for burnout? The two majors I am going for is Business Management & Writing & Literature. Thanks for you answers.

I got kicked out of school in the ninth grade and got my GED in training school and went to college four years later. With my ninth grade education I made a 4.0 my first semester. I worked full time as a waiter throughout college, owned a snoball stand and worked part-time at a movie theater. I always took a full load in college. Sure, I was burnt out but you get used to it. I don't come from money so I had no choice but to work. My parole officer made me pick up the second job. I really had no choice but I managed to make it. I have my degree now and it wasn't a bed of roses getting it. I didn't have to study much in school. The point is to GO to class. Work sucks but when you have no choice it's not too bad. Good luck

Only you know your true balance. I once cried all the way to work once because I missed my kids and was working and going to school all the time. I cut back, we get second chances to get it right.

One thing you might consider...if you have "payment insurance" on any of your bills, use it. Most insurance of this type will make the payments for you while you are enrolled in school full time. I've had insurance like this in the past...it was a major help when I was laid off and on unemployment. If you don't have this insurance, call your creditors to see if they can offer any assistance while you are enrolled in school. They might be willing to lower the interest rate or monthly payment as long as you stay in school and keep grades up.
