What it takes to become a good Manager/PM?
Asked by Ali Y
Soon, I'll be graduated with MBA(concentrated in PM) degree and I need to make a transaction from being Test Engineer to PM or Manager of some group/department. I do have some team lead experience; but never and PM or Manager. Please let me know what it takes to become a good manager/leader in your opinion? Thanks,

If you would like to become a PM, your best bet is to get in contact with your local PMI office. They are a worldwide Project Management organization dedicated to training and certifying people as Project Management Professionals (PMP). If you want to get into this as a career, then this credential is what you should pursue. It takes about 7 years of project management to obtain the ceritification, as well as additional courses and training. There are core competencies surrounding Project Management that you can obtain the information on. See if you can get your hands on the latest version of PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) and start studying. Of course, soft skills are something that many employers are looking for, and these are developed through practice and experience. Skills that I can think of at the moment: Highly Organized Ability to work with ambiguity Accountability work independently of supervision highly analytical inquisitive (asks lots of questions) superlative communication skills financial and business acumen
I work in a project management office.
