What pay should I expect?Teacher in Private PreSchool?
Asked by Sarah F
I have an interview today to teach at a preschool center in our small town. I know that the aides made around $9.00 an hour and had no (or little) college hours. I have a BS in Elementary Education and have 5 years+ of teaching experience in the public sector. I don't want to interview and turn them down due to their pay. Do you think that $11.00 or more per hour would be too much to expect? How should I handle the pay discussion and what do you think I should expect to make hourly? Thanks!

I have 5 years experience working at a preschool. Most of the aides at my school made around 9.00/hr. The ones with a college degree even made around the same. However, the teachers who had an elementary education degree were making between 11 and 12/hr. Definitely ask for what you think you are worth, and considering that you do have a lot more experience than the other teachers and more education, you should ask for at the least 11/hr. It never hurts to ask for more..they can only turn you down. If it was me, I would ask for $12 and let them go down if need be.

My hubby had to take a job in a private school for 2 years. He had a BA and he made about 21,000 a year. Private schools don't pay much
