As a retired officer I can offer some advice.
Continue school, get your BA; do not be in a rush to land a cop job as they will always be available. With a BA you have much more room for advancement as less thasn 15% of Officers have any degree.
At 18 you have time, and lots of it. I would Not encourage you to apply untill your school is complete and your around 23-24 years old; cops simply go from one problem to the next solving each problem as they go along; absent life experience how can a young cop expect to deal with serious life related problems without any experience? The academy will teach basics, nothing more; what you learn in life, in the next five years will determine your level of maturity and capability in dealing with the problems you will be forced to solve as a police Officer.
Good luck; a cop is uslesss, absent credibility.

Take a lot of english courses, you need good writing skills,so your cases will stand up in court, computer skills are also a big plus.
