I want to find out what the usual starting pay is for a bookkeeper/receptionist?
Asked by sexymamabean1231
I am new to a bookkeeping position. I have found though that now I am the bookkeeper/receptionist/housekeeping. The owner of the company will not hire a recetionist as promised and now wants me to clean his offfice as well. I make $9.00hr. I travel 45 mins to work and 45mins back. So gas gets pricey. I wanted to know what the starting rate was, I am a full time mom wife student and employee and just wanted to see wether he was starting me off fairly compared to others. Also if anyone has any information about a flooring program called "RFMS" please tell me how you like it. Thank you very much, any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Well, first location would need to be consider into your position. But you should be getting paid no less than 12/hr. I mean you DO do a lot of things for your boss. I would suggest you look into your area and see how much he should be paying you. Careerbuilder.com is a good site to go look it up. Just go under the salary/wage calculator. If you are being paid less, I recommend you have a talk with him.

I would suggest you going on Salary.com and putting your information and getting a correct quote!!! I did it and it gave me a ball park figure on what I could make!!
Good Luck

i am having the same problem. it depends on where you live but for me, i should be making around 13-15 an hour but i am only making 10. i am asking for a raise. i think you should be making at least 12 an hour because you do so many things and you travel so far. look at salary.com

It depends on where you live but $9hr sounds ridiculously low for all the responsibilities you have. If you are just answering phones you should make at least $10hr, add in bookkeeping and cleaning and I would not work for less than $13hr. It seems you are unfairly being taken advantage of. I would suggest talking with your boss and letting him know what the average pay is. You truly get what you pay for.
