Should I quit my job?
Asked by shinnosukenomiko
I worked as a payroll clerk/general cashier for about 2 1/2 years at a hotel. I really enjoyed my time there. But I started to feel that all I would ever be there was a payroll clerk. I had been told I would be cross-trained during each yearly review, but there was never any follow up. Then I found out the hotel was closing and everyone would be laid off. I ended up finding a better paying job as a payroll coordinator for a hospital. Before working at a hotel, I had no idea what I wanted to do for a living and I really found an interest in accounting and pursuing that. While working at the hotel time went by so fast, I’ve been at the hospital for 2 months and time just seems to drag on. I thought accounting would be the same anywhere I went, but I find it so tedious here. I also am doing a lot of HR, which is something I never really had an interest in. I understand payroll and HR go hand in hand, but I’m in charge of HR responsibilities. Am I not giving this new job a chance?

If you enjoyed what you did at the hotel, can you not find a similar position at another hotel? Hang onto your current position, but be on the lookout for any positions available at a hotel that you might qualify for. You are probably doing double-duty at the hospital, because like everywhere else, hospitals cannot afford to fill every position. Keep your head up, and just keep looking.

QUIT NOW AND MOVE ON! A busy hospital is of course better than a closing hotel. Duh!
