Career Questions and Answers

What career involves animals/wildlife and also pays on the higher end?
Asked by isabel
I am currently working on a transfer degree (science based) at a community college and plan to transfer to a university to study for a bachelors in psychology. I've been rethinking my direction though. I really love animals and have a big interest in conservation efforts, animal rescue, and habitat preservation. I'm also very research inclined, which is why I'm currently aiming for a psychology degree. But, to be honest, another reason I am getting a psychology degree is because of the kind of income it will provide. I am currently making money as a stripper, for the flexibility in schedule but also because I like to live comfortably while I am in school. No starving student for me, thankyouverymuch. I can't really seem to figure out a career path that would involve what I would I like to do and how much money I would like to make. Can anyone offer any advice?

National Geographic? Or, maybe some of the Animal Planet or Discovery shows... There are many interesting Documentaries involving Animal behaviour. I would think it would be hard work and require a lot of patience, but could also allow for travel around the world and some sort of freedom (rather than sitting in an office or lab everyday - all day - for the rest of your life!) Take up Photography also! Maybe you could find a mentor or start as a helper in the field somewhere. Stay in top physical shape! (lol!) I don't know what the pay would be, but doesn't traveling and NOT sitting in an office all day long sound great?!!! I have no idea how to get hooked up with something like this. Talk to your career counselor and find out names of Professors around the country who can maybe steer you in the right direction. Maybe you could contact National Geographic Society or??? NOW and find out what skills they demand?...BEFORE you enroll in other classes. (Now, for a small part time job, you can come to my house and rescue all the feral cats that decided to make babies around our house! I can't pay, but you can call it "on the job experience"!)
Just kicking around ideas from my brain.

Sadly most jobs involving animals do not pay well... However Vets do tend to make good money and you could use this training to work with animal rescue shelters, zoo's, Stables, etc...There are many routes to take and as I said Vets do make decent money...

Search for a job at Sea World in San Diego or Florida. You appear to have the passion to make this your choosen career path. Great pay! Benefits! Location! and More.. Another location of course would be a Zoo. GOOD LUCK! :-)

Forest service! Government jobs are great for a lot of reasons but if you go and work for like a national forest you help out the animals!
