I would like to start waitressing...what's the best way to start? How do I get a job with no experience?
Asked by pumpkin
I'm working in a factory right now and figured I'd make more money waitressing (with tips). Would I have to start with a really low-budget restaurant?

Here, the best way to go is accept an on-the-job training post at a restaurant or better yet at an inn or a hotel. There is more potential for growth in those establishments. Most of the time, they will gladly receive you because basically you are offering to work for free. Bigger establishments offer training and allowances and once you pass their scrutiny, you are on your way.
The reason why I mentioned better establishments is the potentials for growth, once you start as a "food attendant", who knows where you will end up with a little hard work? You can't do that in a low-class restaurant, plus you have to think how it looks on your resume. It would be hard to enter bigger and better establishments if your experience or previous place of work is from a little known restaurant.

Put in applications at all restaurants that are hiring waitresses. Some of the high class restaurants probably require some sort of experience but in general you don't need any to be a waitress. I was an assistant manager at a restaurant at one time and believe me they hired just about everybody.

chose the resturant you would like to work in. Offer to be a runner for a short while with no pay(otherwise known as a shadow...you basically clean up for the waiter/s and do all the icky work), in exchange for a position at the resturant. Express desire to learn and do your best at everything you do.

of course you can..everyone starts to work with no job experience rite! anyway, im aleeya and during my mid semester break, i have worked as a waitress. That was my first job at Chinese Restaurant(but i can only speak English)! Try to give good first impression to ur boss ok. Speak politely.. I got so many tips when i work. Im very happy with that job but have to leave to pursue my studies. I feel like working there is my second family...heheh!i enjoy working there..
any way, incase if u wanna do some part time job at home that is free to join, i can help u.. mail me ok if u'r interested.. i can lead you! nothin to lose becoz its totally free.. its kinda easy job actually..but waterver u do, please do not join watever job that ask you to pay before you start to work! they should be paying you!!
if u'r trying to find your first job, make sure you convince your employer that you can do what he needs and eventhough u dont know how to do, just tell him that u'r willing to learn...
and last tip is---->SMILE :-)
hope that helps..

Yeah, just go for some dive around town, or duncun donuts for a couple of months until you get your feet wet/experience. Then go for (hopefully) they have a "Cayote Grill" where you are. I have a friend who makes TONS OF CASH. *Also, highly consider working for a Mexican restaurant. It's a lot less work, coz there's usually not salads/soups ect to worry about, mostly folks just order an app, and dinner and marguaritas. I'm serious about the Mexi restaurant. I have a lot of experience in this field and everyone I used to work at b4 I graduated I made REALLY GOOD MONEY, w/much less hassles. Good luck to ya!
*get outta that factory FAST and start earning big bugs making tips, You'll thank your lucky stars you did
