Yes a job at a Hotel or at a restaurant can help you. Just apply, they always need extra people

Go to the largest hotel in your area and apply for a "Party Bartender" position. This is a part time position that allows you to work in the evenings, keep your present job, and prove to the Wine Manager that you are good in the hotel business. This will also give you an avenue to work into a full time position as a bartender and if your keep your nose clean, possibly move into the Wine Manager position. With this kind of experience, you now can apply to other hotels with a resume that has experience written into it.

Apply apply apply, stick close to home though, preferably walking distance, gas might be 5 dollars a gallon before long! Even if they are not hiring at the moment apply, hotels and restaurants have very high employee turnover, it's just a matter of time.

Check out the Culinary Institute of America http://www.ciachef.edu - people who graduate from this school usually can land very good jobs in restaurants or even start their own
