What do you think is a better career choice?
Asked by x_masangel69
Im taking medical terminology this semester and im two weeks from being done (thru a career training program called ROP). I want to be a Nurse and the first step thru Rop is to take the CNA course which is one semester. However, I was comparing the skills you learn between CNA and Clinical Medical Assistant (Which is also offered thru ROP) and it seems theres more hands on skills taught thru that course, compared to CNA which is more labor than anything else.Should I take MA first than CNA next semester or should i even take MA at all?

From my experience going to school for a MA is a lot longer than schooling for a CNA which is a couple of months. I am a LPN and the course was only a year and the begining taught us CNA skills, I then got my CNA license and worked as a CNA while in school for a LPN. It was great because I got to work in the field and learn a ton of stuff. My friend was going to school at the exact same time for MA and her schooling was a lot longer than mine. Good Luck on whatever you decide.

Well let me start out by saying that good luck in school and in the job hunt when your done. I am a MA and I was a CNA years ago, But with you going for nursing I would recommend the MA course instead of CNA because as you said CNA is more labor than anything where as MA your learning skills that you will utilize as a nurse. With CNA you won't. But finish your schooling for Nursing do not stop at MA cause it is difficult to find anything in that field just starting out cause everyone wants experienced MA's. But with Nurses whether LPN or RN you can find employment quickly after graduation. Again good luck to you.
