Dental assistant?
Asked by jessica29154
I am currently taking a dental assistant course thru penn foster. And I want to know if there is a way I can work as a medical receptionist or something until i get thru the course. I have had previous education in the medical feild. I was in school to become a medical assistant, but i had to stop half way thru due to my pregnancy. I need to know what i can do to get my foot thru the door in the medical feild. What should put on my resume, anything, would be greatly apprecaited! Thank you

Sure you can - my sister in law worked as a receptionist and billing clerk until she received her board certification.

I've heard that unfortunately employers don't really find those 'online schools' or correspondence schools to be reputable curriculums. I believe that most employers would want the person to have actual clinic experience that a county vo-tech school or community college can provide. Though perhaps you can call around to the local dental offices and ask about that schooling and if they have any openings for a receptionist or billing clerk. I've also heard that there are not too many jobs for medical assistant just btw, perhaps since there are so many programs out there who are graduating students causing a saturation in the field.
