Federal Labor Law states, If you are hired to work less than 40 hours a week, you are considered part-time. If you work 40 hours or more after taking the position, your employer can still classify you as part time. Some states have more resistive definitions.

It kind of depends on the company and the state you live in. Some companies define full-time as anything over 32 hours, some 36, and some 40. And some states have strict definitions of what constitutes part-time or full-time.

Part-time is the definition of the employer... it could be 20 hours or less - some are 29 hours or less... some (mine company) is no more than 40 hours. You hit 40 than it is full-time.

It depends on your state labor laws. In NM, where I grew up, any thing 28 hours and under was part-time. In AZ, where I live now, it is 32 hours and under. Check with your state Dept of Labor.
