How do I answer "What is quality?" on a job application?
Asked by :)
I have a job application here and one of the questions (Should be a paragraph or two answer) is What is quality?
Any ideas? Suggestions? Answers to this?
Thanks so much!
I think I should add that I am applying for a telemarketing job. I am guessing they are refering to the customer service. But .. I could be wrong.
Thank you for your help everyone! There are so many good answers.. it is out of my hands. I have no choice but to submit this to voting!
A:
What they are referring to as far as quality means how do you feel about the quality of a product (or the product your going to sell, think about how you would want to sell a computer?) That should give you an idea on how to answer that question. As far as it it being one paragraph or just an answer, to be on the safe side try not to exceed a paragraph but be specific and to the point.
Good luck on your new job, hope everthing works out fine!

There are many types of Quality such as "Quality Control" or
"Quality Assurance." "letter-quality " is another form of quality.
In other words, if I were to answer this question I might say this,
Were I to be considered for this position I would.
1. Make sure that the material we were working with or my performance wouldn't be of a poor quality.
I would make sure that I used a degree of excellence in my work ethics and that my standard of work would be of a grade or level that would be the type, kind or variety of hard work and dedication you were looking for.
2. After my quality of work has been recognized
you would use words to describe my Quality of work as "excellence, superiority, merit, worth, value, caliber, talent, eminence, preeminence, distinction."
3. Then after the upper management noticed the quality job that you did in your hiring process, they would state that you have many good qualities and attributes that add to this company.
So, that's what Quality is to me.

well speaking about quality... quality is the measure of the amount of time and money spent by a person to produce a single unit of cost..... and cannot be valued in monetary terms.. but can be experienced only when they occur... eg.. service in 5 star hotels.....

Quality in any type of job would mean the same thing. You could put that quality means that you do your best at whatever task you undertake from start to finish. You are always polite and courteous to your customers and follow up with answers to any questions they may ask. You go above and beyond the call of duty to get the job done right. You treat people the way you want to be treated. You are always diplomatic in your answers to problem customers and are nice to them even if they are not nice to you. I work in sales (part time) and often times, customers start out angry but I am patient with them, listen to what they have to say and help them as best as I can. My angry customers always leave satisfied and always return to me. Good luck.

Simply put, quality is describing the way that something is valued. Many things can be considered either good or bad quality. A good quality movie, for example, enriches the way you look at life or a topic or has provided entertainment that was measurably worth more than what you paid. Quality has to do with the inputs as well as the outputs. To keep the movie theme... you expect more quality when you go to the theater for $9.00 per ticket than when you go to the dollar theater. The service the cleanliness the experience should all be better. The input (money) had a direct relationship with what you value as quality.

I wouldn't try to guess what they mean, I'd answer the question in the simplest form.
Quality equals integrity. A unit, whether it's a material unit (something real in the world like a product), a unit of action (work, communication, etc) or an internal unit (a value, a thought, etc) that is whole and complete, missing nothing.
So quality is a transaction or an object that is missing nothing. A phone call where both parties complete the communication feeling satisfied. A transaction where both parties feel that the best possible work has been done. A worker who finishes her/his day feeling that they've done their best, and their supervisors and other people who have interacted with them feel the same.

My impression is that quality is your ability as the salesperson to sell the product or the service to the customer at initial contact and then if they call back for other questions, your level of competency to answer those questions is just as high.

Quality is the quality which quality things share. It is knowing that quality has more quality than anything that is not qualified. When you look at the word quality a lot it looks funny. Funny words are often quality, just as quality is a funny word. The qualifications for quality are to be qualified qualificicately.

I haven't read all the other answers, but the best answer is quality is customer satisfaction. You can give a more detailed answer, but that is the best one. If the product does not perform at least as good as the customer expects, then it is not a good quality product.

"quality" is the kind of service or products provided by or produced by the "qualified" -- then explain that you are that kind of person because you have the integrity not to tolerate inferior performance in yourself; that you recognize and seek excellence, and self-improvement; that you believe that whatever task you put your hand to, and regardless of the financial reward, having agreed to fulfill it, you will give 150 percent effort, and attempt to establish a standard of achievment that others will look up to and seek to emulate.

Quality could be grade, class, worth, or feature. Research the company and its product before you ask for an appointment. Either "google" the company name or visit your local library and involve a reference librarian to cut down your search for information. See the career section of your local library to familiarize yourself with a tentative job description or vocabulary that might explain "quality" in reference to the company's job application. Read up on everything you can about the company before asking for an interview. Call the company 's Human Resources Department if you have questions about the job application. Prepare at least five questions to ask your interviewer. If you have applied for a quality control specialist position, you will have to know pertinent information about the product they offer for sale to the public.

Quality is accountablility. Behind a product is someone with integrity, who will do the right thing when no one is looking. Someone whose primary concern is guaranteeing the customer can expect SOLID committment to a fine product and fine service. (Here's your answer, now make sure that you are the kind of person who will commit themselves to this goal and not just be one of those dam*ed "talking suit" sleezes who will say anything to suck up to the boss and really has no clue what "quality" or "integrity" means.

Quality, simply put, is a combination of the grade of a given product or service at the time of delivery, and how well the product or service serves the end user's needs throughout the life of the product. A cheap chainsaw for example, may cut wood just as fast as a name-brand model of similar size when both are first taken out of the box, but how long the bar and chain last, how long the chain stays sharp, and whether or not it will start after sitting for a year, may be quite different between the two. In your would-be position, a quality response to hearing "I'm not interested" the first time would be, "Sorry to have bothered you. Please remember us if your needs shoud change. Have a nice day! Good-Bye."

They arent interested in a dictionary definition and however you answer, make sure you answer in your own "voice", which means if you like any of these answers dont write it verbatim unless that is the way you talk. You may be asked during your interview to clarify something you wrote so be prepared.
Since it is telemarketing, then weed out the descriptions of "quality" that arent specific to the job.
You might begin your paragraph: "Quality, as it applies to a telemarketer, is the ability to establish such repore with a customer that both parties develop mutual respect, trust and interest with one another condusive to the telemarketer's sale of the product and doing so having gained the full confidence of the customer.
You might end your paragraph as: "While true that time is valuable and the telemarketer's goal should be to effectively manage time in order to reach as many customers as possible, the quantity of a telemarketer's calls should never exceed the quality of the telemarketer as representative of the company.
Good Luck.

Well I wont be writing your paragraph for you, but rather define the simplest description of quality;
Tell them quality for you is meeting and exceeding your customer's expectation.
The you can go ahead and give one or two examples of how you would attend to customers curteously and on time, going to lengths to resolve customer complaints and issues that the customer will be so impressed at being treated well that their loyalty is guaranteed.
Best of luck :)

Quality is not necessarily the speed with which something is handled. It is also the degree of satisfaction found in the finished work. In some things it could be the "polish" or brilliance of a product. In a car it could be the performance and functionality. In conversation, it could be the interest generated by a sales person.

Quality = Customers or clients' Expectation
Quality does not exist, or does not matter if no one needs your products/service.
In a telemarketing call center environment -
* Employers' expectation of quality = % close rate + % customer complains + % showing up at work
* Customers' expectation of quality = rep is friendly to talk to, presents good value products, explains benefits of products well and answers all questions thoroughly

A:
Quality is simply defining accurately the intended performance of a product or service and delivering on that definition. It should be clear to the customer or client what they should expect and once the product or service is delivered, they should feel satisfied. If for some reason the product or service does not meet the defined intent, you should have in place the procedures to remedy the situation.

In the manufacturing industry, Quality means the company's ability to meet the customer's expectations. It could include ontime delivery, percentage of good parts versus scrap, cost / value, proper documentation and a whole host of other things. Every industry has their own Quality Standards, which means the rules outlined which details HOW they will meet the customer expectations.

Qualities are natural or accidental. thus whiteness is a natural quality of snow; softness is a natural quality of wool and fur; hardness is a natural quality of metals and wood; figure and dimension are the natural qualities of solids; but a particular figure, as a cube, a square or a sphere, is an accidental or adventitious quality. Quality is setting yourself, your company, and your product as being above and better than everyone else's. We all know that there are times when a product, is not up to spec, it is what we do to insure that it remains a one off problem. This includes first and foremost satisfying the customers concerns, and resolving the problem that they are experiencing at the moment. The next step is to find the root cause as to why this problem exists. Then we must find a corrective action, in order to assure that this problem does not repeat itself. Last but not least is inform the customer as to what actions you are taking in order to insure that what happened to them will not happen again.
