are there any careers out there that are related to carpentry but using more earth friendly building materials

i use earth friendly to refer to not having to cut down trees. are there schools that teach this?

Well, wood is considered earth-friendly because it can be sustainable as opposed to oil and iron that when taken from the earth are not replaced by nature. There are many products on the market that work in carpentry situations that are using by-products of other activities include the wheat-straw board mentioned in This Old House's Austin project (www.pbs.org) and medium density fiberboard (mdf) made from wood chips and sawdust from other processing.
About the only thing more earth friendly that I can think of is rammed earth and adobe which works better in some places than others.
