What is the legal age requirements to work in a licensed restaurant in UK?
Asked by angelrose0105
Have been offered a job in a restaurant that I know employs 16year olds to cook and serve alcohol. Is this legal? Am just thinking if it isn't I dont want to work for a dodgy boss.

You are allowed to gain employment serving alcoholic beverages if under 18 as long as you are employed on a recognised apprenticeship (i.e. you must be receiving training leading towards a recognised qualification) - this gives exemption to the law requiring you to be 18. If not then employing someone under 18 would be illegal. There is no requirement to be 18 for cooking food as far as I am aware though - otherwise McDonalds would be in big trouble!
