Am I crazy to change from engineering sales career to a preschool teacher?

I don't linke the computer industry and haven't found any personal interested in what my company is making and what is the industry is heading to. I had a degree in electrical engineer, but never enjoyed my classes. After working as a engineer for half an year, I quickly switched to hightech sales. However, the companies i worked were all started ups and I had horrible experiences with the micromanagement type enviroment. I got very stressed out from work, and go home with bad tempers. My husband suggested me to pursue a different career cz it is not worth to stay somewhere I am not happy at all. I always like and have great patient with children, and think preschool teacher will be a great career for me. However, from the research I've done, the job incentives are not very high. I am hoping after a few years, I can start my own day care. Is there anyone has experience starting their own day care center? Do you think i am taking a risk switching from high paid job to a low paid one?

If you realize that your financial situation will be slightly different, but its' something that you love, why shouldn't you change?

Having a career and loving what you do that matters in life. It doesn't matter about money. As long as you love what you do and go to work happy that is important. Why go to work for the money if you don't love what you do. So, I say take the risk.

Do what you love!!! I'm currently taking 2 steps back in my job to do something I know I'll like more. If you can afford a paycut, do it.

While I can't give you any specific advice about working in day care, I can give you advice about changing careers. A big portion of your decision rests on how much money your husband makes and whether he has good medical benefits that also cover you. If you can afford as a family for you to take a major cut in pay, then I think you should do it. You do not want to spend the rest of your life dreading going to work.

You have to do what makes you happy. There are many regulations for running a day-care, so make sure you do plenty of research. If you can afford it, maybe you could work part time at a pre-school and go back to school to get your teaching degree so that you can teach in elementary school. Or find one of those certifications programs where you can start teaching immediately and earn your teaching certificate at the same time.

I don't think so. You are doing this to make yourself happy--right? Life is too short to do things you don't like. You can do research online about starting your own business at www.sba.gov That is the federal governments' Small Business Association. They have all kinds of great help for a female starting her own business. Check it out. Also, you can checkout the Labor Market Information website to gather more informtion. www.lmi.gov (might be .com or...) Good luck to you!

The pay will be much lower - you already know that. But if you are not at all happy in your current career, and would be in preschool teaching, and you are OK with having less money, then go for it - life's too short to stay in a job you dislike just for the money.
