Sometimes it is recommened that you go in as a "hard ass" otherwise they will walk all over you. However you have to go in with a soft side also to gain their trust. Good luck, remember foodservice workers in nursing homes have done the same job the same way for years and years. They are used to dishing up soups early and storing them in the steamers and here you are a new guy saying regulations say only 3-5 soups at a time. You are prob. going to get a lot of...we have done this job for years and this way and it works for us. My advice, so in to earn their trust, listen to what they say and before you make any changes ask their opinions. Make sure you ask their opinions it will keep you on their good side and they might see or know something that as the new guy you don't know. Watch out for the grapevine and the un-offical chain of command and don't mess with it at first. There is always a ringleader someone and groups that follow and employees who the main group does not like. Try to figure all that out by observing. Another good way to earn their trust is to maybe get trained on all the positions so that you know what they do. This is help you if you have to redo the job flows, it allows you to get to know the staff and show them that you are interested in what they do. Good luck

Better to introduce yourself as a team member and stres that collectively the facilitiy's dietary needs can be worked and taken care of and you shall guide them to discharge their responsibilities in most efficient manner.
