What are the best jobs to get if I want to become a forensic investigator but currently do not have a degree?
Asked by Wanita
I want a job at a firm that deals with either computer forensics, background investigation, private investigation, I am currently going to college but have a LONG way to go before I get a degree in Criminal justice. I heard town halls are good but I can not find anything online that deals with this sort of investigation and if it does then you need a degree. How do I begin my career before a degree? Please help!!!

Wow -- you will need to start at the bottom of the bottom (been there, done that). Try to do some volunteer/intern work in the office that you are interested in working with (this is a good way to go if you are currently in school) then, when you finish your degree, APPLY APPLY APPLY. Since you are interested in computer forensics, I am hoping you are doing your degree in that area. Keep in mind that not all of the computer forensic/background investigations are in criminal justice -- many companies hire for that position as well. Check with your university's career center, and do some research on your own (if you can't do that -- consider a different career) -- there are many ways to get a position, even without experience, if you just put your mind/heart/soul to the task. Good Luck!

I'm sorry to say but with the amount of mistrials and lawsuits due to improper police procedure it is highly unlikely you will have a "career" without a degree in any major law enforcement agency. I don't know where you live but around here most people aren't looking for a CJ degree, they want to train you so even a basic sociology degree will suffice.
