I need to organize my bosses desk?
Asked by Sheilamarie
I am a secretary for a regional manager in the design and construction business. He desk is such a mess and clutter with just papers everywhere. Any helpful tips, websites or books you can suggest for me. I'd really appreciate it. I don't want him to think i am incapable of being a good secretary but we need to work together as a team to keep the clutter under control.

I have the same type of boss. If you know exactly what is what on his desk, then your a good secretary, but don't put your job at risk if you don't know what he is working on when it comes to you fiddling with his work. Yes, you need to work together, but you also need to listen [[not eaves drop]] what he says in his office, so you know what he is working on. I would just say do it if he asks you too. If you have questions, ask. It doesn't hurt to ask. And DON'T ASSUME!! my boss told me the first time i said" Well, I assumed...." she cut me off and said, if you assume, you might just end up making an ass out of you and me. So, i never assume anymore. =D GOOD LUCK

If he did not ask you to do it than don't. People work differently. Some are neat freaks and some look like a tornado just went through their office. However that does not mean that they are not organized in their mind. You or upper management may ask something from this individual and they would be able to find it in a heart beat. Don't overstep your bounderies

talk to him about the clutter then IF HE WANTS YOU to fix it then do it! then ask what order he wants things in! because you both work differently he probably feels it just fine and knows were everything is!
