Police Officer?
Asked by skip a heartbeat
I'm a girl and at the age where I have to start deciding what I want to do when I leave college. I'm not going to uni, but have thought about becoming a mounted police officer. I believe you have to do at least 2 years as police patrol before applying for the mounted police section. My question is this, is anyone out there a police officer of any kind? Can you tell me what it is like to work as one, and any general info on training time, level of fitness required and hours you work etc? Anything would be great and would really help me make up my mind! Thanks very much!

A close friend of mine is a police officer and im ex military , adn we had similar targets for fitness, there used to be the mile and half run which was a mile and a half in 13 minutes or less depending on your age and sex, but as far as i know its the bleep test now , i cannot remember the exactl level for the bleep test , but you also need ot follow it by some thing like 25 situps 25 press ups and 25 squat thrusts. to the best of my knowledge it is still a 2 year probationary period before you can specialise. There is an aptitude test too you have to pass to enter , and if your in uk she did her training at aikley heads Durham. NOw though after about 9 years service she works shifts . Hope this might help if only a tiny bit best of luck in your career search

A:
Not a police officer but you are correct about having to work 2 years as a beat bobby before applying to any of the other divisions.

yeah, you have to do 2 years 'probation' and then you can specialise, i am interested in becoming a police officer aswell and i have been told that you get a very good pension when you retire and you also start of at aroun £22500 then it rises to £32000 and if you become a senior police officer it can rise to £55000, these figures are just to memory but check out this link, it gives you al the information you need to know about becoming an officer in scotland but i would imagine it is all the same
