Where is it th easiest to get hired as a police officer?
Asked by jr_footballpro
I always wanted to be a police officer. But the problem is I'm not a person for the class room. What states are easy to get hired in? I figured I could always transfer after a few years. I live in NJ and most departments want 60 college credits.

If you dare, find a state with a large population and no financial problems. Don't go to California, yet. But there's no easy way around a college education. You are established in NJ, aren't you? Why uproot and take chances? Consider distance learning where you go at your own pace and send in the assignments when you're done with each one.
Overcome your education handicap because there's no room for any handicap in the line of work you're looking at.

You are correct- many departments but not all want 2years of college now. Much of it would have to do with the amount of money you can earn. Because of its reliability, civil service positions are getting more popular so therefore departments are looking to get better quality people. Some departments waive education experience for practical experience. An example would be a police officer from New York who retires from the job and moves to Florida and takes another police position.
Bottom line- go to school. 2 years in a community college is not that hard and it would open up plenty of things in law enforcement. Don't you think the time you spend in a police academy requires quite a bit of book work??
