Do I tell them that I am pregnant?
Asked by IamwatIam
I went to an interview and they asked me back for a second one. I am almost 5 months pregnant. ( I am small and it is easy to hide, they didn't know.) My question is do I tell them at my second interview that I am pregnant? When do I tell them, in the beginning of the interview or the end of it. I am feeling very guilty for looking for a job so pregnant. I would work for 3 1/2 or 4 months and then need 6 weeks off. Should I just tell them I am not interested and go to a temp agency. I am jus t out of school.

Be honest and upfront with them. They may not hire you because of it, but that will keep the door open for after the delivery. If you don't tell them, that is not being completely honest with them. Therefore, if you do get the job and not be upfront and honest, they will always be questioning your honesty and integrity. Let them know you are still interested in the job, but be understanding if they hold off on hiring you. Since you are just out of school, what are your college plans? Married? If you are planning on keeping the baby, you will want to be the best person you can be for that child to look up to. If you don't want a child keeping important things from you, don't be keeping important things from others.

I would be up-front with them. They may not hire you because of it, but it's better to be honest and up-front.

Tell them because they are going to know soon anyway. Just say something like : "There is something about me you need to know but it won't affect my work performance." You may want to use these people as references someday so you need to be honest.

If you tell them that your pregnant than it might hinder their decission to hire you.....I went through the same thing when I was pregnant and I kept telling them at every interview that I was pregnant....Finally I figured out that they weren't hiring me because of my pregnancy....So the last interview I went to I didn't tell them and I got a job......Just don't tell them wait until they figure it out and then say "I thought you knew already" when they say so-an-so you are pregnant.....Just act like you thought they knew, they won't hold it against you.

EVEN THOUGH I AM YOUNG....I THINK IT'S WISE TO TELL THEM U R PREGNANT SO THEY WILL KNOW AHEAD OF TIME YOU'LL HAVE TO BE OFF FOR 6 WEEKS IF U GET THE JOB.....I'M GUESSING THE BEST TIME TO TELL THEM IS WHENEVER THEY ASK IF U WILL ABSOLUTELY BE ABLE TO WORK....

Tell them. You may not get the job but on the other hand IF you don't tell them and in a month or two you begin to show and they become very unhappy with you and they will make it so hard on you that you will have to quit anyway. Tell them and if they still give you the job, you will be at ease, do a much better job and be one heck of a lot happier. If you don't tell them, you will feel guilty, worry and not do a great job. Good luck Sweetheart. Pops

Be honest and ask if you can be considered for other openings after having the baby... Go temp..it shows you want to acquire skills and time in the workforce...ambition...Some temp jobs lead to permanent placement... Good luck with job hunting and the new addition soon

Go to the second interview. Most of the time at then end of the interview the person interviewing you will ask if you have any questions. Then you could mention your pregnancy in the form of a question. But you should definitely let them know.

U should tell them u r pregnant. This is because u will be their colleague when they employ u and how do u face them when u can only work for 31/2 months. However, if the Company is a huge organisation, they may take u in after u give birth that will be 1/2 a year later. This is important as in when u can start work after giving birth too. Actually, now u should start reading and educate the baby while its inside your tummy, some of my friends do that for their 2nd child and they are indeed smarter than the 1st child. Anyway congrats and good luck.

The most ethical course would be to be honest with them. If it is a job you want, it is not good for your first real impression to be that of not telling the whole truth. If they are really interested in you, your pregnancy should not matter to them. They may even try to let you work at home a little and extend your time off, if they are a good enough employer. This actually happened to a friend of mine who was VERY far along. Her employer actually did hire her, even knowing she would give birth shortly after they hired her. (she just gave birth to a healthy boy, btw). She was fresh out of graduate school and was scared as well. You should tell them at the very beginning of the 2nd interview. So that the interviewer has a chance to consider this in light of your other answers. It might even "break the ice" and get them talking about their own kids. If I were doing the hiring, I would be rather impressed that the candidate was ethical enough to be honest, but that is just me. It is possible that they might not hire you because you are pregnant, but if that is the deal-breaker, you would be better off finding someone else to work for that would be a bit more family friendly. TO SUM UP: In my experience, I have always chosen to be as honest as possible with my employers. It has ALWAYS been the best course of action in the long run, even when it didn't seem so at the time. That old cliche about honesty being the best policy really works.

You can tell them or not, but you should keep this in mind. You are not eligible for FMLA until you have workerd at least one year for an employer. That means that they are not required to give you time off for your pregnancy or to reinstate you to your job when you are ready to come back. So whether you tell them or not, they are not obligated to give you time off. I would reccomend not telling them and taking the job. That way you earn some money before the baby. Note: They don't have to give you the time off for the pregnancy, but if they regularly allow other employees to take time off for other medical reasons and deny maternity leaves, they may be violating federal anti-discrimination laws.

Honesty is the best policy tell them and let the employer make the decision, they may be willing to hire you anyway if you have exactly what they are looking for, and if they choose to hire you than it's on them when you have to take off for 6 weeks. And even if they don't hire you now them my keep you in mind for future openings.

Be honest. They will espect honesty. Conceal it, they'll find out anyway and you will have been less than honest.

I believe you have to tell them. Because it could mean you will lose your job if they know you knew you were pregnant. first of all you are on probation for 3 months so if they see you lack you can still be let go but at least you were honest with them. K

Doctors say not to tell your employer you are pregnany until your 2 or 3 trimester or until you actually show. One very important reason. The stress of telling them or them beating you about it has forced many miscarriages. This mostly happens in the 1 trimester and doctors say that is us safe to tell you employer in the 2 or 3. Cant believe you doctor did not tell you. Oh and also if you get any harrassment that makes work unpleasant to work it can be called work harrassment and they can and should be sued.

My friend was let go during her probation period (first three months of employment). They did not have to give her an explanation when she was laid off because of the timing. They can do the same with you. You might be better off going to an employment agency. After you have the baby look for permanent employment.

from my experience if they ask you back for a second interview then you u pretty much have the job.. or it's a close tie between you and one other person.... you should tell them that you are pregnant if not it's going to be the office gossip for awhile... "There was a 35 year old lady that got hired with me who was five months pregnant. she told everyone two weeks into the job, saying that she had just found out" everyone knew that either there was somenthing wrong with her because she didnt know her body or she was lying"... They can't ask you if your pregnant even if they think that you are and they can not legally not consider you for a job because you are pregnant. you should tell them when they ask if you have any questions... be sure to let them know that you being pregnant will not affect your job neither before or after the baby is born...
