Does the pharmaceutical industry purposelly hire beautiful women to be sales reps?

I've heard that most beautiful women are hired to be pharmaceutical sales representatives so they can flirt with the doctor and sell their product. Is this true?

Most industries (why single out the pharmaceutical trade alone ?!) hire beautiful women - because they have realised that buyers cannot be bored into concluding a deal, but will have to be interested into making their decision. ...There are also plenty of female Purchasing Officers today, just as there are umpteen female physicians - and no one can say that they look forward to any 'flirting' ! ...Even their male counterparts have hardly the time for dilly-dallying - plus a gnawing fear of getting caught, reported and sacked ! ...But, pretty or not, women can be a pleasure to listen to - and have been proved to put forth their sales pitches more effectively, than a male would. They do not lose their cool easily, and can withstand a lot more work-pressure than an average salesman could. Besides, even the grouchiest of Purchase Officers would find it hard to be rude to a good looking female - while they would have no compunction about nastily showing a salesman where the exit is ! So, sales is now fast becoming the forte of women.

Seems reasonable. Sex sells.

Hey, if you were buying for a pharmacy, who would you call? That guy or woman who can sell you what you want but looks like your neighbour, or that gal who sells exactly the same stuff but looks real good and makes you feel real good! Right first time! The latter! So, if you were a Pharmaceutical wholesaler, who would you hire to sell your stuff? Your neighbour, or that gal that looks real good and makes you feel real good? Right first time! Your beighbour is still looking for a job!

Apperance is big business. Not only are these people attractive, most of them are highly educated and deserve to be exploited to serve their needs for making a living too. Beauty isn't everything...but it helps! Would you be more apt to buy a diamond from a homeless guy on the streets or in the jewelry store?

Our pharmaceutical sales reps that come into our office are all very good looking men.....perhaps because we have an office full of women ;)
