Anything that pays a commission instead of hourly. Then you'll get what you're worth. The more you sell the more you earn. I think furniture is probably the best bet right now. If you get with a good store in a good location you can expect to earn 50-60k/ and that will increase as you stay and get more repeat customers and refferals.
If you have any skills at all, I'd try and get into B2B sales, I know several people in retail and B2B.
If you're one of the top salesmen in your store, you could probably sell B2B. Your first year you'll probably be the lowest paid of the sales reps, but still earn much more than when you were in retail and have better hours.

Target pays well and treats their employees really well. Great benefits! If you want something more specialized and more geared toward customers go with something like tuxedo sales at AfterHours Formalwear or Mens Wearhouse (soon to be one company). If you live in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, or Florida look for a Gordon Food Service. They have great benefits as well!

That is hard to say, not knowing what area you are speaking of.
However, Container Store has consistently been on the annual list of Best Companies to Work For. They offer good pay and excellent benefits for their employees.
Check them out if they're in you area.
