How do I get involved in the wine industry as a career?
Asked by Donny Z
I would really like to learn how to go about working for a winery and eventually running my own vineyard. Is there any way to do this without being born into a rich family that owns land, or being given land by someone? Can a person working in a wine cellar at a winery work their way up to a position where they make a great living?

Definitly yes! It is a matter of learning everything about making wine you possibley can. This won't happen overnight and there is no get-rich-quick schemes to having a career making wine. Begin by doing a yahoo search for online occupational handbooks and do a keyword search on "wine" "winemaking", "vineyards", etc. Add library reasarch to that. Also, begin to identiy as many people in the wind industry as possible, growers, cultivaters, distributors, sales organizations, etc. .....meet them, pick their brains. If you can volunteer at wine making orgnaizations, or even local brewer....beer is not wine....but the business connect. Then identify the kind of things you'd like to do within the wine business based upon who you are. Eventually you'll make the right contacts and will find yourself doing what you love! All the best!

First, learn the game. See how the big boys do it and modify it to your style and need. Two ways, work from bottom to top in a winery business field and eventually open your business when your experience enough. 2nd go to library and learn everything and anything about business in the winery area and take a loan to open a vineyard. Make your product sells in order for you to become successful. GOOD LUCK!
