Anyone have Job Advice for a 19 year old?
Asked by Peanut
I'm a 19 year old female living in Minnesota. I graduated high school and have over 3 years of jjob experience but I'm having trouble finding a job in a different field since most of my experience is in phone call centers. Anyone have any advice on how to possibly become a nanny, teacher aide or Admin. Assistant?
Thanks!

Go take classes at a community college (or even from an online college) to become an adiminstrative assistant or teacher aide. A college education is a must these days in order to find a job.

College, for the administrative assistant. Then you can move up to an executive assistant, and if you're good, they can make ok money.
College as well for the teacher's aide, and maybe the nanny.

Do you have any where you can take some business classes? If you tailor them toward administration and business management, it would look great on your resume if you are going for Admin. Assistant. Also, volunteer and intern work looks great, too!

I believe being a nanny requires you to have some type of First Aid certificate and CPR certificate. Being a teacher's aide for elementary-high school would most likely require college education. Being a college professor's aide would definitely require you to be at least a graduate student. You may have luck being a secretary or admin assistant, as you've handled phone calls in your previous jobs. You can also try earning certificates from local tech schools or training places (ex., computer, EMT, accountant, etc.)

Confidence, a firm hand shake, a smile with eye contact.
Be professional and build rapport with the person who is giving the interview.
Rapport trick: If they talk fast, you talk fast... if they talk slow, you talk slow. Mirror their movements. If they cross their arms, you cross your arms. If they point up to something and say something, you point up, repeat what they said and the key is: not only did they KNOW you heard them, and are on the same wavelength, but their subconscious will pick up the familiarity..... hence you remind them of them self, and instantly like you.
Works like a charm!
