I've been a buyer for 12 years, however have never worked for the military. I have seen assistant buyers make anything between $12/hr--to around $37,000/yr. It depends on experience and type of commodities being purchased as well as what part of the country you're in. Personally, I think the most important thing is to understand how much you need to make, and what you're willing to settle for. A lot of time purchasing positions don't pay as much as you'd like, because it's not a revenue generating department. I don't know how much negotiating room there is in a civil service position, but if you're going to be a buyer, there's no time like now to start working on those skills. Good luck.

I have worked for the Military Exchange, AAFES and you do not get pay very well. There thing is, that there are alot of people out in the military area that want and need jobs, and if you do not want the job for the money they offer, they don't care, as there is always more people wanting jobs than jobs. Good luck.
