Hard time finding work for recent commerce grad - need advice?
Asked by angela923
I graduated this summer from University of Toronto for the B Comm program. My grades are average, 3.01 CGPA out of 4.0. I don't have much experience, only worked as a sales associate for wal-mart in high school for a few months and a telemarketing job for a few months in university.
I'm having trouble finding a job and I'm interested in finance. Will it get easier once I pass level 1 of the CFA exam? I'm planning on taking the test in December this year. What can I do? I've had my resume looked at/edited and I've applied to many jobs posted at school, online, and everywhere with no luck. Any advice? How long does it take the average person to find work? I am only asking for a full time position related to finance and I don't care about how much money I get.

Best Answer:
Go to the defense companies (lockheed-martin, raytheon, L-3, boeing) . They hire many finance types and the pay and benefits are excellent though the hiring process is quite slow.
Mortgage companies pay less but have stock options and a bonus with some jobs.
