when you work in a retail as a sales associate, when is the first commission paid?
Asked by truth86truth
I recently started working at a shoe retail store, and I just got my first pay. My pay structure is that I get the hourly pay and a commission based on sale. However, for my first payment, I only got the hourly pay , not the commission. So, would there be any reason for that? I'm thinking maybe that is related to the 15-day return policy (so I get the commission if none of them were returned after 15 days) .oh yeah. I sold some shoes, so 'maybe you didn't sell any' could not be the answer. THanks!

Best Answer:
ask your mgr. some comps only pay commission once a month. for example...you work the month of Aug. you make x$ and hour for all the hours , then on the first pay check of September you make all of the commission that you earned the month of Aug plus your normal pay hourly. some company's only pay on "delivered" items (the sale is final) other pay on written business( sale is written but merchandise is on order or not picked up/delivered to customer) I hope this helps

I'd be asking your boss - not us - since we don't do the bookkeeping for your company

You'll need to check with your employer on the exact pay structure, it's very reasonable for you to ask how, specifically, your pay will be structured. Something like, "Can you explain exactly how the commission works? I've never worked in a commissioned environment before." Not, I noticed I didn't get any commission on my paycheck, whats up with that? Next time, by the way, ask these questions BEFORE you accept the job! When I was working for wage/commission, I had a base I had to reach, then any sales over my base I got paid a commission for.
