Cnc programmers make code for cnc machines. Programming by hand and using cam software.
You can learn to program cnc machines by hand on line but you can't with cam. As the cam software costs a lot of money(10k+-) you have to go to school. It's really hard to be a cnc programmer without knowing how to operate a manual machine. Cam software doesn't know how fast to cut , how deep to cut ,how to clamp the parts ect.
Being a programmer is very hard in fact as no one wants to give you a job programming a 50,000 dollar machine that you could crash. They all want you to have experience.

This is a highly percise tool & die machining unit which is highly computer controlled and makes precisiong cuts and holes to a 0.1 mm accuracy.
Other than programming, understanding the limitations, and which tool and die factors to add into the unit for the job is essential.
When making prototypes of anything, you need to make precise cuts from a blueprint - understanding and interpreting a blueprint is essential. Most times, the company will give blueprint A, tell you to wait but input values, then give Blueprint B with slight changes. You'll have to pull a "Where's Waldo" and figure out where the changes are without redoing the whole reprogramming job. Not easy.
Yeah, you need to go to Tech School for this one.
