How do you deal with an insane boss?
Asked by You Break It, I Fix It
I drove a school bus for a year. I drove a delivery truck for two more years. I recently took a job as an inter-city transit bus driver. Admittedly, a 45' motor coach is a bit more to handle than a 38' school bus or a 34' box truck, especially in towns where there's tight turns, double parked cars, people who will try to sneak around you if you give them a 4' opening between the bus and the curb and oblivious pedestrians who don't look.
It's bad enough that it is a new driving experience. Not knowing the area well hurts too. The "instructor" is a crazy old guy who tells you which way to go at the last second, so you can't plan what you are doing. As you go through a turn he screams, LEFT, RIGHT, SLOW DOWN, SPEED UP, WHAT THE F--K ARE YOU DOING? Steps between you and the windshield so you can't see as he is turning off the A/C in the 80° bus because you are sweating and he wants to make you feel worse. The guy can't drive anymore. He's very angry. He is only trying to mess you up so he
can scream insults at you and your ability to drive. He does it to everyone. Good and bad drivers. Its not just me he picks on. He'll just start saying weird stuff all the time and massacres the names of the towns and stops, in a repetitive sing-song way. I am convinced he's nuts. Probably stems from the fact that he can't deal with the fact that its time to retire. About 75% of the people that apply for these jobs don't make it. If you do make it, it pays about 25% over the going rate for drivers, about $850 a week vs. $650. Once you get through this nut case, you never see him again. Within 2 years, you will be up to about $1,000 a week. For me, that's worth hanging in for. Its just so hard to take his abuse and not snap back at him, which could cost you your job.
I have done this crap for two weeks. I have 3 more weeks to go. How can I keep my humor? Thanks!

Maybe he has a sick way of testing you. Just think of all the nuts jobs that you'll get on the bus. If you can deal with him, the nut jobs will be easy.
You are almost half way done. Start having fun with him. Every time he yells a command, repeat the wrong command and say YES SIR!
When driving, tell him you need to slow down for the alligator crossing (assuming you don't have alligators near you).
Don't be rude, just wacky and laugh your a$$ off on the way home.

tell him to tone it down, or if you know where he lives, write him a letter and tell him what u said on here, but just dont put your name on it. Or the only thing I would do is get used to it, if its your only way.

What he's doing may be harassment and should be reported. Even if you stick it out and just deal with it for the remaining 3 weeks, that doesn't help all the others who will come behind you. At some point someone has to step up and file a complaint with the company on this guy, otherwise he'll continue harassing people for as long as he can get away with it.

I'd say suck it up for the next couple of weeks. Make notes each night of the comments. Once you have passed probation, report him to management, if you feel comfotable doing so.
