Are there any school social workers out there?
Asked by mead1973
I have a MSW and I interned as a school social worker when I first got my MSW in 2002. My biggest goal has been to become a school social worker. I can't seem to get a job in the field. I am a certified special education teacher too. So, I have experience working with kids in the school environment but can't seem to get hired as a school social worker. Please give me some advice and tips that can get me hired?

Are you professionally certified? Have you taken all the required exams to be professionally certified with a school district? Go to your state Department of Education website and find out how to apply for your professional certificate for social work.

Some hospitals hire social workers that they put into 'special schools'. By special I mean that they are meant for children who can't hack it in regular schools. This may be something you may want to look into. I know this because my G/F is a social worker that this is how she does it
