How do I get a job working for a major auto manufacturer?

I've tried the usual corporate websites going directly through HR. I have almost 15 years experience on the retail side of auto sales - I even had a regional sales manager for Nissan submit my resume to Nissan with a reference and didn't even get a call! Is there someone who works for a manufacturer that could share their secret to getting a job?

Right now the auto industry is going through lay offs and downsizing, the chance of you getting a job there is beyond slim down to none. Sorry its the economy
