Commercial Building Code Question for job interview?
Asked by killmylandlord
Commercial Building code Questions for a job interview? Please help!? I was a commercial building engineer(Xerox building in New Orleans) for a short time but I have recently gotten married and moved to Montgomery, Alabama. I have an interview coming up for an inspector job working for the State. My job history is more maintenance related in commercial buildings because my 8 months as Building engineer was mainly by default due to Hurricane Katrina. I also have 15 years experience as a residential remodeling contractor. Is there any info anyone can send me to help me dance through this interview? The new job is mainly inspecting and keeping tabs on State certified adult mentally handicapped facilities. The State accepts liability by certifying these privately owned buildings.Information on basic handicap regulations, basic fire safety code, and Life safety code would be great. Everything I pull up on the net gives me info thick as a phone book but no real specifics to help me!

I would study the Life Safety Code (NFPA101) and ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities (ADAAG). I believe that the latter is available for free download on the web, but you will probably have to buy the NFPA document unless you can borrow it at a library. You should be able to skim through these documents in about a half a day and get a fairly good understanding of the requirements.

If you know your regs, you'll be fine.
