How would you get a job on a crab or fishing boat, etc?
Asked by angel
How would you get a job on one of those boats that pays really well like a crabbing vessel or a fishing boat? One of those big ones that goes out & stays out on the ocean for quite a while. Does anyone have any idea on how much they make & how to search for a job there? Maybe a keyword for an internet search, too. Thanks! :-)

If you are willing to travel up to Alaska during the summer months, then there is opportunity. You usually have to apply with a crew around January. Check out the web for Alaska jobs, fishing. I contemplated the idea years ago after I moved from Alaska. I found a site, and they sent me a catalog of how and when to apply. It also had the names of many different fishing vessels to get on board with. They work long hours, and it can be a tough job! However it is only for 3-4 months of the year, so if you can tough it out, then go for it. They also have places on these boats for diesel mechanics, and medics. Good luck!
