I want to quit fast food management which I have done for 11 years. What are my options?
Asked by kfcboo
I have been a fast food manager for 11 years and am burned out and bored with it. I don't want to do food service anymore, but lack a college education. Are there any jobs I could get where the pay would be similiar to what I make currently?($40,000)

Not likely. Since you pretty much dedicated your management career to it - that's where your experience will lie. Maybe you could consider going up the chain a bit, get into executive management for restaurants. Otherwise - prepare to go back to school.

You can manage other retail stores that are not food oriented they are always looking for mangers for clothings stores and boutiques, you can also go to an employment agency like Western or Kelly and let them look for you.

Work at a retail store for a supervisor position. You might need to get some experience to get into a management level (Kohl's, department store, Target, TJ Maxx, etc.) Since you've had manager experience, you might be able to be accepted for a position.

Have you thought about going back to college? I think it is hard to make that kind of money without a college education unless you are in some sort of service-minded management area like fast food or hotels. I have often thought of leaving the food service area, but I remind myself that no matter what job I have there will be times that I am unhappy. I also remind myself that at least I have a stable income, especially in the job market today. I then take a few days off and always feel better when I come back.

You should make contact with some of the suppliers to your restaraunt chain; McDonald's, Burger King, Jack-in-the Box, etc. The suppliers of the tables, kitchen equipment, food stuffs, electronic equipment, etc. are always looking for people in management positions who know how to deal with the restaraunt chain corporate office personnel and more importantly the managers of the stores and franchise owners to help them decide to select their product instead of their competitor's.
